Recently made famous as a “Lily Trotter” by David Attenborough on his latest installment of “Planet Earth”. This bird is better known as the African Jacana, and is one of the most common sights in wetland areas around the Chobe River and the Okavango Delta

The remarkable thing about these pretty water birds are their long and slender feet, which spread out their weight and allow them to hop across the wetlands without falling in, hence Dave’s name for them.

the Marabou Stork well and truly earns its place amongst the Ugly 5 of Southern Africa. Just look at the pictures of them. They are scavengers, and eat anything they can get their beaks on. They are very large and not all that endearing.

Hammerkop

A Hammerkop eating a frog was the only “kill” we saw in the Okavango
