Owls

Just the two owls

  1. Marsh Owl
  2. African Barred Owlet or Scops Owl

Marsh Owl

We spotted this Marsh Owl stood in the middle of the road blocking our way back to camp

We’d seen another flying around at the King Nehale Waterhole at night in Namutoni, Etosha. However this was the one and only good photo we could take.

African Barred Owlet or Scops Owl

This little owl is either an African Barred Owlet or a Scops Owl, and I can’t decide which. At the time we were convinced it was an owlet, it was tiny. But the scops owl is also small, and the ‘prrrp’ call is exactly how I’d describe the noise we heard this one making.
