Northwards from Chile

In Santiago we will be waving goodbye to our Campervan. From there we begin the return 5,000km journey to Bogota via public transport.

The rough idea is to head to northern Chile and the Atacama desert. Volcanos and altitude sickness await.

Crossing into Bolivia which will be our 4th new country of the trip, the first port of call will be the famous Salar de Uyuni. The scenery of the high Andes will continue to surround us as we head north further still, through the Capital city La Paz, and on to Lake Titicaca and Peru

Well into the gringo trail by now, we shall stop by the major tourist sites in Peru near Cusco and Arequipa. We also plan to spend some time near Huaraz and the Cordillera Blanco before considering carefully our next steps.

Ecuador is not in a great place at the moment, it’s possible the situation has calmed down enough to permit a visit to the mainland. Nevertheless we currently consider a trip to the Galapagos islands as a safe possibility if only transiting Quito airport.

Last but not least, a triumphant return to Colombia to collect our return flight back to the UK after nearly 100 days on the continent.
