Procrastinating
Just days left until we depart and there are still large holes in the plan.
At the very beginning of February we have a week in Colombia, and without a plan of where to go. This arose due to the fact we first booked return flights to Bogotá by virtue of it being the closest and cheapest place to fly to in South America from London. Then, we attempted to secure a campervan in chile, which we found was only available from mid February. In the end we managed to arrange camper pickup in Punta Arenas which is at the very southern tip of the continent. However this means our journey south is seven days later. Leaving us seven days in Colombia which we are wholly unprepared for.
At the moment we are spending much more time acquiring different gadgets and widgets for our travels than actually sorting out our itinerary in detail. Mike is having fun creating animated maps for his blogs rather than doing anything useful.

Final weekend
Finally we are on sabbatical. Professional life is firmly packed away for six whole months.
If you had to guess the first destination on our grand tour, Cornwall might not be rolling off your tongue.
Nevertheless we crawled our way down the A303 to spend a couple of nights at the beautiful Boconnoc estate near Lostwithiel.
Sarah was taking on the big job of being little Leo’s godmother, and so our attendance was of utmost importance. The ceremony on Saturday morning was early and brief, and we spent the rest of the day enjoying the surrounds.
It was fortunate we could make it, because we had a fantastic time. The weather was warm and fair, astonishing considering it was the first week of February. And we had the perfect last weekend, relaxing in this enormous Manor House filled to the brim with the friends and family of Sarah’s closest friend.

Despite the 5 hour return drive, Sunday evening was spent at a final pub quiz at The Trafalgar in Tooting. A lethargic fourth place finish signalling burnout, and a holiday is urgently needed to rediscover our form.
It’s now less than 24 hours before we fly, packing and planning needs to start urgently. By Wednesday we’ll be in Colombia and the South American trip will be in full swing.
